How many times have you heard ' “real beauty is within us’’. Probably a lot of
times. How many times have you experienced it? Not many, right?
When was the
last time you fell down and got hurt. The wound healed but perhaps there was a
scar left in its memory. Here’s a story about a girl named beautiful: She looked
in the mirror, her reflection was looking right back at her. Like every other
day she counted and with each count she got lost into the memories of her past.
One. The first scar. It was summer time. The heat was draining and so everyone
decided it would be a good idea to take a dip in the pool. After some time one
of her friends announced that her dad had started the sprinklers in her yard and
so everyone got out of the pool and ran towards the friends house. She did too.
In all the excitement her wet feet slipped and she fell. After several days of
changing bandages all that remained was a scar. That scar reminded her of all
the fun things she did that summer. It brought her a sense of joy and happiness.
As time passed and the mark got older she didn't remember the event as a time
when she fell down. What she did remember was that even in that horrible heat
she was surrounded by people she could count on, people who helped her when
times were rough.
Two. This one was right below her toe. She got it at her best
friend's birthday party. All she did was stub her toe. It seemed like only a
scratch. It healed in less than a week. When the band-aid came off a new scar
was revealed. It was weird. This incident didn't seem scar worthy. But even
today that mark is a reminder of her first best friend. A memory of their
friendship.
Three. Four. Five. She continued counting the marks one after the
other. The countless tales of how she got them took her down memory lane. The
marks reminded her it wasn't a dream, it had actually happened.
Your scars don't
define you. The stories behind those scars is what defines you. They may be
stories of bravery, stories of weakness, or stories of trust, faith and hope.
But they are your scars. They make you who you are. They aren't marks made to be
covered up by powder or concealer. They aren't flaws in your skin. These marks
are your beauty. They remind you of who you were, are and who you want to be.
Beauty is skin deep. Beauty is who you are as a person. Your scars are just
marks and reminders of your beauty. Is true beauty how you look or is true
beauty how you act? Is it what's on the outside that matters or is beauty really
skin deep? You are the judge of that:)
