Fiction

It was a rainy afternoon. The smell of the wet soil was everywhere. It was right about then that I decided to make a pot of tea, pick up a good book and start reading. This particular book was based on how people tend to change their opinion on various things as they grow older and that got me thinking: when I was little I had the impression  that nonfiction books are the ones you should read. Why? Well,  because they talk about things that have actually happened, problems that people have faced, and how they overcame them. I think we were all made to believe that the only stories worth reading were the ones that had already happened, the ones that were already successful.

Years pass and we keep on reading. Whether it's fiction or nonfiction, a short story or a novel, a newspaper or a magazine we just  read. I kept on reading but my opinion in terms of what books are worth reading changed. I’m sure all of you have read about the life of Albert Einstein and Rosa Parks. They were great people and if you haven't read about them you definitely should. We learn from their life stories. Have you all read ‘The Hunger Games’. It’s a fictional book, completely made up by the author, Suzanne Collins. But there is so much you can learn from it. You learn about sacrifice, honor and dignity. You learn to keep hope and never stop fighting for what you believe in.

A good book doesn’t have to be labeled as ‘fiction’ or ‘nonfiction’. The book should just suck you right up into the story. You should feel as if you are a part of their world and when you feel like you're going along with the characters in that book you learn. I have learnt so many things through these so called ‘fictional’ stories. Many may think that reading about incidents that have already happened is the only reading that counts but there is a whole different learning you get when you become one with the story. Fictional books will teach you a lot, all you have to do is understand them, understand the characters and their journey. You have to make them your stories. So pick up a book and make the story real:)
